Audiation, the goal of Edwin E. Gordon’s Music Learning Theory, is the understanding of music that is heard, performed, created, read, and written. The word has become prevalent over the past few years, but what exactly is it, how do we teach it, and how does it benefit our students and ourselves? Krista Jadro and Hannah Mayo will explore Music Learning Theory and demonstrate how the principles of audiation can shape the way we teach so that all students bring understanding to music they listen to, pieces they create, and repertoire they learn.
Krista Jadro and Hannah Mayo, co-hosts of the podcast Keys to Music Learning, are passionate about audiation. Both run independent piano studios and offer online courses and webinars through Music Learning Academy. Krista is certified through the Gordon Institute of Music Learning (GIML) for Early Childhood, Elementary General, and Piano and is on the GIML faculty. Hannah is certified by the Music Teachers National Association, Louisiana Music Teachers Association, and GIML for Piano and is an adjunct professor at University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
